Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Mangu, Inc. collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you when you use our manga reading application and related services. Please read this document carefully. By using Mangu, you agree to the practices described herein.

 

1. Introduction and Scope

Mangu, Inc. ("Mangu," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Mangu mobile and web application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the App, including visitors, registered users, and subscribers, and governs the collection, processing, and use of personal data in connection with your use of our services.

This Policy applies globally and is designed to comply with applicable privacy and data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and other applicable regional regulations.

If you are under the age of 13 (or a higher age threshold where required by local law), please do not use the App or provide any personal information. Mangu is not directed to children under the applicable minimum age.

 

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you register for an account or interact with our services, we may collect:

       Account registration data, including your name, email address, username, and password.

       Profile information, such as your profile picture, bio, and reading preferences.

       Payment information, including billing address and payment method details (processed securely by our third-party payment processors; we do not store full card numbers).

       Communications you send to us, including support requests, feedback, and survey responses.

 

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the App, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical and usage information, including:

       Device identifiers, including your device ID, advertising ID (IDFA on iOS or GAID on Android), IP address, and device type.

       Usage data, such as pages or content viewed, time spent reading, features used, taps and clicks, and in-app navigation patterns.

       App performance data, including crash logs, error reports, and load times.

       Location information, limited to general geographic region inferred from your IP address, unless you grant us more precise location access.

       Log data, including timestamps, browser type, operating system, and referral URLs.

 

2.3 Information Collected Through Advertising

Mangu displays advertisements within the App to support our free-tier service. In connection with this advertising, we and our advertising partners collect the following categories of data:

       Advertising identifiers: We collect your device's advertising identifier (e.g., IDFA or GAID) to serve relevant ads and measure their performance.

       Behavioral and interest data: Ad networks may observe your in-app behavior and browsing patterns across other apps and websites to infer your interests and deliver targeted advertisements.

       Ad interaction data: We record data about the ads you see, including which ads are displayed, whether you tapped or clicked on them, and time spent viewing an ad.

       Contextual signals: General information such as your device type, operating system, language, and approximate location may be used to select contextually relevant ads.

       Cross-context behavioral advertising: Our advertising partners may link your data across different services and apps to build interest profiles. You may opt out of this type of advertising as described in Section 7.

 

2.4 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information about you from third parties, including:

       Social login providers (e.g., Google, Apple, Facebook) if you choose to sign in using a third-party account.

       Analytics and attribution partners that help us understand how users find and use the App.

       Advertising networks that provide us with aggregate performance metrics.

 

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

       To provide and operate the App, including serving content, managing your account, and processing transactions.

       To personalize your experience, including recommending manga titles based on your reading history and preferences.

       To serve and optimize advertisements: We use advertising identifiers and behavioral data to display relevant advertisements within the App. This enables us to offer a free-tier service supported by ad revenue.

       To measure advertising effectiveness: We analyze ad performance data, including impressions, clicks, and conversions, to optimize our advertising inventory.

       To improve and develop our services, using analytics and aggregated usage data to fix bugs, test new features, and enhance the user experience.

       To communicate with you, including sending transactional emails, service announcements, and, where you have opted in, promotional communications.

       To ensure safety and security, including detecting fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.

       To comply with legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from public authorities and enforcing our agreements.

 

4. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:

       Contractual necessity: Processing required to fulfill our agreement with you, such as providing the App and managing your account.

       Legitimate interests: Processing for purposes such as fraud prevention, security, and improving our services, where these interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

       Consent: Processing based on your express consent, such as for behavioral advertising or marketing communications. You may withdraw consent at any time.

       Legal obligation: Processing required to comply with applicable laws and regulations.

 

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data in the traditional sense. However, we do share information in the following circumstances:

5.1 Advertising Partners

We share advertising identifiers, device data, and behavioral data with our third-party advertising network partners, including but not limited to Google AdMob, Meta Audience Network, and similar platforms, to enable targeted advertising within the App. These partners process your data in accordance with their own privacy policies. The sharing of data for cross-context behavioral advertising may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA. You may opt out as described in Section 7.

 

5.2 Service Providers

We engage trusted third-party service providers to operate aspects of the App on our behalf, including cloud hosting providers, analytics platforms, payment processors, and customer support platforms. These providers are contractually restricted from using your information for any purpose other than providing services to us.

 

5.3 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have as required by applicable law.

 

5.4 Legal Compliance and Protection

We may disclose your information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with a legal obligation or lawful request; (b) protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or the public; or (c) prevent or investigate suspected illegal activity or violations of our Terms of Service.

 

5.5 Aggregated and De-identified Data

We may share aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for purposes such as industry reporting and research.

 

6. Data Retention and Storage

We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. Specifically:

       Account data is retained for the duration of your account and for a reasonable period thereafter in case of disputes or legal obligations.

       Usage and analytics data is generally retained for up to 24 months.

       Advertising data, including ad interaction logs, is retained in accordance with our advertising partners' data retention policies, typically between 13 and 25 months.

       Financial transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years for tax and accounting purposes.

Your data may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We implement appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, to ensure adequate protection of data transferred internationally.

 

7. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

7.1 Rights Available to All Users

       Opt out of marketing communications: You may unsubscribe from promotional emails by clicking "Unsubscribe" in any marketing email or by adjusting your notification preferences in the App settings.

       Opt out of personalized advertising: You may limit ad tracking through your device settings ("Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS or "Opt out of Ads Personalization" on Android). You may also visit the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page at optout.aboutads.info.

       Cookie and tracking controls: You may manage tracking preferences through our in-app consent management tool or your browser settings.

 

7.2 Rights Under the GDPR and UK GDPR (EEA/UK Users)

If you are located in the EEA or United Kingdom, you have the following rights:

       Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

       Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.

       Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data under certain circumstances.

       Right to restriction of processing: Request that we limit how we use your data in certain cases.

       Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.

       Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.

       Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw any consent you have given at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

7.3 Rights Under the CCPA/CPRA (California Residents)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:

       Right to know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.

       Right to delete: Request deletion of personal information we have collected about you, subject to certain exceptions.

       Right to correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.

       Right to opt out of sale/sharing: You may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising by clicking "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" in the App settings or by submitting a request to us at the contact information in Section 10.

       Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Authorized agents may submit requests on your behalf, subject to verification requirements.

 

8. Security of Your Information

We implement and maintain industry-standard technical, administrative, and physical security measures designed to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, regular security assessments, and incident response procedures.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

 

9. Third-Party Services and Links

The App may contain links to third-party websites, services, or content, and may integrate with third-party platforms for social login, payments, and analytics. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through or in connection with the App.

Our key advertising and analytics partners include, but are not limited to: Google (AdMob, Firebase Analytics), Meta Audience Network, and Adjust. Links to their respective privacy policies are available in the App's "Privacy & Data" settings menu.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy, providing prominent notice within the App, and, where required by law, seeking your renewed consent.

We encourage you to review this Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.

 

12. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where superseded by applicable mandatory local law (including GDPR for EEA users).
